Marriage Proposal For The Uncreative: How I Kept It Simple But Managed To Impress

There’s only one topic appropriate to follow my last wedding post: the proposal. That’s the moment that will be remembered with the engagement ring’s presentation so it was crucial to get right. I wanted to create a good memory for Tina of how the engagement ring got on her finger, and I wanted to propose in a way that was “us”. That meant it had to be memorable, but not cheesy or over the-top.

This is what happens when you try to be too creative with your wedding proposal

Finding The Right Diamond Engagement Ring

diamond engagement ringFirst “real” post of my one man’s wedding series has to do with diamonds. I spent my sweet time working to not mess up my engagement ring purchase and I seemed to have done an OK job. So, for the clueless men out there who are in the position I was a few months ago, I thought I’d share how I did it and what I learned.

I decided early on that I wasn’t going to take the total surprise approach with my proposal. That’s not my style. I like to be sure of what I’m doing and the outcome. That said Tina knew a ring was coming her way, she just didn’t know  when. Since I had nothing to hide I wanted to pick her brain about the type of engagement ring she thought she’d like. I, on the other hand, slept soundly. I’m pretty sure all of my guy friends did too.

Wedding Business Guy Gets Engaged

The majority of posts on this blog have been about our hybrid invitation system Mightyvites. Most Mightyvites posts relate to weddings. That’s because our hybrid invites are great for weddings, so we target that industry. Ironically it’s an industry that neither Steph nor I have dealt with as customers. We are spouseless siblings who have based our business on an experience that neither of us have had.

No, that's not us. I couldn't arrange the elephants in time.

That changed, however, on February 12th when I took the plunge and got engaged. Yes, my amazing fiancee Tina and I gave in to our instincts and decided to tie the knot. We hadn’t been dating long (only about 9 months) but I knew on date #2 that she would be my wife. I think it took her longer to come to terms with the fact that I would one day be her husband, but she did eventually give into the little charm that I have.
